FC Barcelona were not at their fluent best against Rayo Vallecano but still managed to get the three points on the night. The Catalan club managed to eke out a slender 1-0 lead to keep their home record going at the Camp Nou.

After the game, one of the captains, Pedri, came out and spoke in the media and he had no hesitation in accepting that the team did not play well. However, he did acknowledge the importance of the three points more than anything else.

As quoted by SPORT, here is his assessment of the match:

“We did not know how to control the game. The goal came from a corner, but we lacked having more of the ball and they pushed forward when they saw they could equalise in the last fifteen minutes.”

He also made clear that Rayo deserve credit for making life uncomfortable. Pedri said:

“Rayo bring a lot of intensity, with very fast players up front who do not stop making runs. They cause problems for every team.”

Pedri then turned to the physical side of the game, with Barca again playing after a demanding European schedule. He said:

“The legs feel it after a Champions League match, but we must not make excuses, we have to keep picking up points and there is one matchday less to go.”

A player like Pedri doesn’t hide, whether it is on the pitch or off it. The Spanish midfielder agreed that the team were tired and fatigued and what matters now is that they go away to recover and come back fresh for the important run-in.

It starts with three games against Atletico Madrid within two weeks and let’s wait and see how things play out.
