Bayern Munich lost their first Bundesliga match of the season after 2-1 home defeat to Augsburg on Saturday.

Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat of the current Bundesliga season after losing 2-1 at the Allianz Arena against Augsburg in round 19.

The league leaders took the lead through Hiroki Ito but Augsburg produced strong second half comeback.

Goals from Arthur Chaves and Noah Massengo turned the match around and secured major victory for the visitors.

The result marked Bayern’s first league loss of the campaign ending their unbeaten run at the top of the table.

Eberl: “Augsburg deserved to win”

After the match Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl admitted that the defeat was more about performance than missing players.

He said every Bundesliga match is difficult and Bayern failed to bring their best level while Augsburg did.

Eberl stressed that Augsburg deserved the win and that Bayern must push to the limit in every game.

He also noted that the team is going through busy period with some players unavailable but insisted Bayern still had strong squad on the pitch and must respond quickly in upcoming fixtures.

Bayern dlat after the break

Bayern struggled to control the match after halftime and looked unfocused during Augsburg’s spell of pressure. Head coach Vincent Kompany made substitutions but they did not change the rhythm of the game.

Augsburg took advantage of Bayern’s drop in intensity and finished their chances well to complete the upset in Munich.

Bayern still Clear at the top

Despite the defeat Bayern remain top of the Bundesliga standings with 50 point holding 11 point lead over second place Borussia Dortmund who face Union Berlin later in the round.

The loss is reminder that Bayern cannot relax during demanding part of the season, with important league and European matches ahead.
