Palmer’s had a difficult season after missing the majority of the first half of the campaign with a chronic groin injury.

The 23-year-old returned to action in December and despite some promising performances, most notably the hat-trick against Wolves, he’s found it hard to get back to his best.

Palmer revealed he’d turned a corner physically after the Port Vale game, and if Chelsea are going to finish in the top five they’ll need him somewhere near his best.

The England International has scored nine league goals this season, and has played both centrally and from the right under Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.

Palmer thrived on the right under Mauricio Pochettino, but Wright-Phillips feels Chelsea have to find a way to get him playing as the ten, and to build the team around him.

“If anything, he’s that player that if you had the team behind him, you could make him cheat a little bit, because you want him in a position where he’s close to the striker that can play those passes,” he said as quoted on X.com.

“I just think they need to find a way to play him as the number ten, because he is the maverick that you need, and in many ways, I feel like a player of his calibre and what he’s done at this short time there, they should try to build a team around him.”
