Thiago Alcantara set for second spell with the Barcelona coaching staff | OneFootball

Thiago Alcantara is set to return to Barcelona as part of Hansi Flick’s coaching staff, according to Spanish outfit Carrusel Deportivo.

Thiago was initially a part of the technical team when Flick was appointed by Barcelona last summer.

Fluent in English, German and Spanish, he was instrumental in bridging the communication gap and serving as an intermediary between Flick and the players.

However, bureaucratic issues forced Thiago to step back and return to Liverpool temporarily.

Since his return to Barcelona, he had been waiting for an offer to rejoin Flick’s staff, but Barcelona’s financial issues stood in the way of a permanent appointment.

After coming through La Masia, Barcelona’s esteemed youth academy, Thiago made 101 appearances for the first team before joining Bayern Munich in 2013.

The 34-year-old brings a wealth of experience and has a history with Flick following their time together at Bayern, where they won the treble in 2020.

His role will focus on aiding in the development of young players and helping them adapt to Flick’s tactical demands.

This is largely unsurprising when you consider his deep understanding of Barcelona’s football philosophy, combined with his varied European experience.

Thiago will be aiming to help Barcelona defend their league crown after the Blaugrana regained domestic dominance from arch-rivals Real Madrid last season.

Following a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano in their final outing before the first international break of the season, they are currently two points adrift of Madrid in the standings.
