Thibaut Courtois left injured during Belgium’s World Cup quarter-final against Spain, departing in the 71st minute with the score 1-1 and replaced by Senne Lammens, the Manchester United goalkeeper.

According to L'Équipe, the Real Madrid goalkeeper, 34, had opened the door to international retirement before the tournament, so his Belgium career could end here.

A few minutes earlier, Courtois had blocked a Mikel Oyarzabal strike with his left thigh in the 62nd minute.

After that intervention he went to ground, appeared to have a thigh problem and was unable to continue.

Courtois left the pitch in tears and took his place on the bench.
