Thierry bids emotional farewell as Valencia exit ends seven-season stay | OneFootball

Thierry Rendall has left Valencia after his contract expired on 30 June, ending seven injury-hit seasons and 160 official appearances, and he addressed supporters with a heartfelt goodbye.

According to Superdeporte, the Portuguese full-back is awaiting a move to Venezia. He was one of eight squad players to reach the end of their deals.

He reflected that the past two years had been difficult, and that he departs in a way different to what he wanted or felt he deserved. Even so, he said he takes treasured memories, special people and lifelong friendships, and he thanked team-mates, coaches, staff and club employees.

His qualities never fully took root at Valencia, largely because of persistent injuries. Only two campaigns matched expectations, with strong spells under Javi Gracia and José Bordalás and a phase with Gennaro Gattuso. Rotating with Dimitri Foulquier did not bring the best from either, and his time ends having recently turned 27.

He also spoke of pride in representing Valencia, the feeling of walking out at Mestalla and of personal growth through adversity. He reserved particular gratitude for supporters, and for his wife, family and friends.
