Thierry Henry on Barcelona: “Europe is beginning to feel the danger” | OneFootball

Barcelona’s victory over Newcastle United has reignited the belief that something special is building under Hansi Flick.

Among those most impressed was former Barcelona forward Thierry Henry, who watched the performance unfold with a sense of admiration. 

For the Frenchman, this was about the manner in which Barcelona imposed themselves on a European night.

Henry did not hold back when describing what he had just witnessed, stating, “What happened isn’t a victory, it’s a global earthquake,” before adding that it was “a night that will go down in history.”

A strong reaction

Barcelona’s first-half performance had its flaws, but the response after the break was immediate and overwhelming. 

Henry pointed to that shift as the defining feature of the night — a complete transformation in attitude and execution.

Reacting to the turnaround, he said, “What a second half! A complete transformation… A different character… A lethal determination,”

He then captured what he believes this version of Barcelona is truly capable of, adding, “This is the real Barcelona… When they want to, they can do anything.”

He made it clear that Barcelona are beginning to show consistency in their level, with a style of play that looks increasingly convincing regardless of the setting. 

Whether home or away, there is now a sense of control and belief in how the team operates.

“They’re an incredible team. You watch them play and think: ‘Wow, they look so convincing!’”

Furthermore, drawing a comparison with one of the most iconic eras in the club’s history, Henry suggested that the current team is beginning to evoke memories of Johan Cruyff’s legendary side.

“Then you see them at home and it’s like… it’s as if we’ve got Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team back!”

Cannot be stopped

Henry further highlighted how Newcastle were eventually overwhelmed, unable to cope with the speed and precision of Barça’s play once the momentum shifted.

“Newcastle completely collapsed in the face of this attacking onslaught,” he said.

He then explained just how difficult it becomes to stop Barcelona when they reach that level, adding, “Stopping Barcelona like that? It’s almost impossible!”

Henry believes this Barcelona side is beginning to develop a strong personality, one that is capable of competing at the highest level consistently.

“This is the face of Barcelona under Hansi Flick,” before making a bold projection about what could come next, 

“We will overtake them on goal difference, come what may.”

To close his analysis, Henry offered a reflection that perfectly captures the essence of this team.

He said, “When a team gets fired up, it leaves nothing behind. Congratulations, Barcelona… Europe is beginning to feel the danger.”
