Things are getting very real in terms of the Club World Cup.
Chelsea have touched down in the USA, the opening game is tonight, and the Blues play on Monday. So it’s time to forget about transfers for a bit and start thinking about football.
One of the things which brings it home how close we are to the action is the interviews with players coming from all sorts of official sources. Tosin Adarabioyo has just spoken to the official FIFA site about how excited he is to be playing in this new format against the best teams from across the globe.
He pointed to how improvements under Enzo Maresca had come through the manager’s intense training sessions and the players’ reactions to them.
“Just pushing on every day, [is that helped us] I think,” Adarabioyo said in quotes on FIFA’s official website.
“Training sessions every single day have been at a high level. We are a mature bunch of boys and performed at a high level throughout the season. We managed to hit our objectives.
“There’s obviously a lot of strong teams in this competition, [Paris Saint-Germain] being one of them, Champions League winners, and then you’ve got other huge clubs at the competition as well. It’s tournament football, so you never know what can happen,” the defender concluded.

Tosin has a real battle on his hands out in the USA. He’s established himself as a trusted player for Enzo Maresca, but was never quite first choice. Even at the end of the season he was battling with Trevoh Chalobah for games.
With an expensive new defensive signing expected, plus Mamadou Sarr already on the books and Wesley Fofana returning at some point, Tosin knows that this tournament gives him a unique chance to impress again before the competition gets even more intense.
