A week of Lazio drama and remembrance. According to The Laziali, 5 May 2002 brought a 4-2 win over Inter to clinch UEFA qualification, plus landmark victories over Milan and Juventus, and the passing of Oliviero Garlini.

On 4 May 1997, Roma 1-1 Lazio ended with Igor Protti equalising in the 92nd minute for ten-man visitors. A day later, Lazio beat Inter 4-2, Karel Poborsky struck twice and Diego Simeone and Simone Inzaghi scored. On 6 May 1984, a 2-1 win over Ascoli left Lazio needing one point at Pisa to stay up.

On 7 May 2000, Lazio edged Bologna 3-2 yet entered the finale still two points behind Juventus, a disallowed Fabio Cannavaro goal in Turin dominated debate. On 9 May 1976, Milan were routed 4-0 in Rome, giving Lazio renewed hope of survival.

With Juve top, Luca Marchegiani kept Lazio alive, stopping Moreno Torricelli, Sergio Porrini and Ciro Ferrara, while Alen Boksic missed a rare chance. Oliviero Garlini, Serie B top scorer with 18 in 1985-86 and nicknamed Boom Boom, made 67 Lazio appearances and scored 19. He died in Bergamo on 8 May 2025, aged 68.
