Thomas Christiansen has praised Leeds United and says his Elland Road spell shaped him as a coach ahead of Panama’s World Cup clash with England tonight. As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he reflected warmly on the club and the city.

Appointed in June 2017 after stints with APOEL and AEK Larnaca, he oversaw a bright start to the Championship season as Leeds chased a Premier League return. Results then dipped in autumn and, after a brief December upturn, he was sacked in February following a 4-1 home defeat by Cardiff City that made it five straight losses.

Christiansen returned to management with Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2019, then took his first international role the following summer as Panama head coach. He guided the team to World Cup qualification.

"My time in Leeds was not so long but I learned a lot," said Christiansen at his pre-match press conference.

"I liked a lot the people in Leeds. They were amazing and I really enjoyed it. "And it was also place where I had learned the most in my coaching career because also when things are not going so well is where you grow the most."
