Thomas Christiansen has saluted Leeds United and reflected on his Elland Road spell as his Panama side prepare for a huge World Cup group-stage finale against England tonight. According to yorkshireevenpost.co.uk, the Dane spoke warmly about the club and the city at his pre-match press conference.
Previously of APOEL and AEK Larnaca, Christiansen was a surprise appointment in June 2017 and oversaw a strong start in the Championship as Leeds pursued a Premier League return.
Form dipped in autumn, and despite an upturn in December he was dismissed in February after a 4-1 home defeat by Cardiff City, which left Leeds with five losses from their last five games.
He returned to management with Union Saint-Gilloise in July 2019, then took his first international post as Panama head coach the following summer, leading them to World Cup qualification.
Christiansen said his brief Leeds tenure taught him a great deal and that he enjoyed the people in the city, describing them as amazing. He added that the tougher moments were where he grew most in his coaching career.
