“Yes,” he said when asked if he could imagine becoming a coach, speaking to Kicker.
Last summer, Thomas Müller left Bayern Munich to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps on a contract running until the end of 2026. Turning 37 later this year, he has started thinking about life after football.
He scored twice in a 3-0 derby win over Toronto FC in MLS.
“I don’t know which training path I will take when I finally hang up my boots. That will also depend on how I feel after some time and distance.”
“Do I want to continue being part of this football world that has given me so many emotions? If yes, do I want to be on the pitch? That comes with little job stability, unless you become a youth coach.”
“I haven’t found any orientation for myself yet, and I’m not trying to right now. I don’t feel that things need to happen quickly if I stay in football, so I don’t need to start preparing immediately. I can afford to take my time and see.”
“I’m not the type to rule things out, and right now, I love being a player.”
