Giorgio Furlani’s time as AC Milan CEO appears to be drawing to a close, with the club’s hierarchy expected to discuss his future formally following Sunday’s final day clash against Cagliari, and three candidates already identified as potential successors.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via MilanNews24, Furlani is considering his position after sensing a lack of desire from owner Gerry Cardinale to continue with him in the role.

The task of identifying a replacement has been handed to Massimo Calvelli, RedBird’s key operational figure, who has already begun the process of drawing up a shortlist.

Galliani, Carnevali and Fenucci emerge as candidates to lead Milan restructure

The three names that have emerged are strikingly different in profile. Adriano Galliani, the legendary former Milan CEO who served under Silvio Berlusconi for over three decades before following him to Monza, would represent a deeply nostalgic appointment.

The 81-year-old is understood to be close to Allegri, which could ease some of the internal tensions that have defined this season, though any role for Galliani would almost certainly be seen as a short-term measure given his age.

Giovanni Carnevali, currently Sassuolo’s long-serving CEO, brings a very different set of credentials: a reputation for shrewd recruitment, financial discipline and player development that has made him one of the most respected figures in Italian football administration.

Claudio Fenucci, the architect of Bologna’s remarkable recent rise, rounds out the trio.

His work in transforming the Rossoblu into a European club on a modest budget would make him an attractive option for a club looking to rebuild intelligently rather than simply spend.

Furlani’s expected departure would be the latest in a significant overhaul of Milan’s leadership structure, following Igli Tare’s imminent exit as sporting director and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Ibrahimovic’s role at the club.
