Leeds United are exploring a move for Julian Brandt, who is set to become a free agent after his Borussia Dortmund deal expires, with at least one Champions League club also in the mix, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

The 30-year-old would add targeted attacking quality and his versatility offers multiple options. Here are three possible fits if a deal is struck.

As a Brenden Aaronson replacement in a 3-4-2-1, he could mirror last season’s hybrid role, defending right then drifting inside as Jayden Bogle overlaps and Joe Rodon shuffles wide. His awareness and craft suit tight central pockets. Daniel Farke would demand defensive discipline and work-rate, and he would also cut inside on his weaker foot.

In a 3-5-2, he could sit behind two strikers, with Noah Okafor or Lukas Nmecha alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The space between the lines suits him, roaming into half-spaces to link with wing-backs Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson before deliveries to the front pair and onrushing midfielders.

A 4-2-3-1 would free him to play as a classic No.10 when chasing games. He could combine with wingers such as Okafor and Willy Gnonto or stay central to work off Calvert-Lewin and threaten goal himself. That setup may hinge on adding a top-level right-winger, with Farke not favouring Gnonto or Daniel James, and it carries defensive risk.
