The 25-year-old provides a much-needed boost to Ruben Amorim’s attacking options

United, who have been chasing Mbeumo since early June, wrapped up a deal for the 25-year-old for an initial £65m, with a further £6m in add-ons.

The Cameroon international has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, with the option of an additional 12 months, and will fly out for United's pre-season tour of America.

Mbeumo becomes United's fourth signing of the summer and will help to bolster Ruben Amorim's attacking ranks next season.

Here, Standard Sport takes a look at how he could fit into United's system...

Playing as a right-sided number 10

Amorim likes to operate with two narrow number 10s behind a striker, and having signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves to play on the left-hand side, he will see Mbeumo in a similar role on the right.

Mbeumo is a touchline-hugging winger, but he has built his game around coming in off the right flank and opening up shooting positions on his favoured left foot.

Moving his starting position further in-field will not be an issue for Mbeumo, who likes to operate in the half spaces.

He has the precision to pick passes and get shots on goal, often catching goalkeepers out with low driving efforts to their near post.

With Mbeumo and Cunha operating as number 10s, Bruno Fernandes will have to drop deeper, but this should not stifle United.

Mbeumo benefited greatly from the sweeping long balls of sitting midfielder Christian Norgaard at Brentford last season, and there's no reason why Fernandes cannot adopt a similar role within United's team.

Potential Man United XI (3-4-2-1): Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro; Amad, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Cunha, Hojlund

Playing as a right wing-back

Mbeumo's arrival has created healthy competition on United's right wing, with Amad Diallo also vying for minutes.

It does, however, mean that one of the pair will likely have to play at wing-back in Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system, with the other playing as the number 10.

Mbeumo would of course prefer to play centrally in a more advanced role, but his work rate, honed in Brentford's hard-running system, means he's more than capable of operating as a wing-back.

No player made more successful crosses in the Premier League than Mbeumo last season, with his ability to cut onto his left foot and send in deep crosses proving a valuable source of goals for Brentford.

Playing through the middle

Amorim is unlikely to utilise Mbeumo in this role unless he really has to, but given he scored 20 Premier League goals last season - almost half the amount United as a team scored last term - the United boss will view Mbeumo as a viable option at centre forward.

Mbeumo's pace in behind makes him a threat regardless of the sort of service he receives and, as he proved last season, his composure in front of goal has improved immeasurably.

United have been crying out for a goalscorer for many years, and in Mbeumo, they have a player who ranked behind only Mohammed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak for goals scored last season.

United are prioritising Premier League-proven talent this summer, having bought two of the division's standout performers from last season in Mbeumo and Cunha.

It could be argued that United have paid over the odds for Mbeumo, but what cannot be denied is his ability to deliver goals whilst providing versatility and energy to a United side in desperate need of reinvigoration.
