Tiquinho Soares is training with Mirassol after a proposed loan to Fortaleza stalled over finances.

According to Diario Do Peixe, talks had advanced before halting over costs, with Fortaleza, in Série B, unable to meet what Santos are asking.

Santos received R$ 3.3 million from Mirassol for the loan and have been covering the striker’s full salary. Any switch to Fortaleza would have required compensation to Mirassol and a further payment.

With no agreement, Soares has rejoined Mirassol’s programme. Santos are not seeking his return, and although Mirassol considered sending him back, the loan runs to the end of the season.

He missed the start of 2026 at Santos with a calf problem and later lost the number nine shirt after Gabigol arrived. His camp explored a termination, despite him offering to forgo almost half of what he was owed, but no deal was reached, and in February he moved on loan to Mirassol.

He has one goal in 10 games. Signed in January 2025 in a package linked to Jair’s move to Botafogo, he is contracted until the end of 2027 and has nine goals and four assists in 43 appearances. Francisco Soares, 35, previously featured for Vitória de Guimarães, Porto, Tianjin Teda and Olympiacos before joining Botafogo in 2022.
