Memphis Depay has extended his Corinthians contract to 31 July 2028 after prolonged talks. NEC midfielder Tjaronn Chery has spoken about the forward’s impact in Brazil.
“I did not speak to him, I just followed what was happening, but I am very happy with the renewal because I see he is having a big impact on Brazilian football. He is an incredible player and I know him, and I am happy he is there and that the fans like him,” he told SBT.
“Yes, he can be an example for other Europeans, of course, because in the Netherlands he has a big impact and many people follow him. I think so, because he is doing a great job and probably many Dutch players will follow him. It seems to be an incredible league.”
NEC visit Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday at 16:00 at Aspmyra Stadion in the second leg of the final Champions League qualifying round. After losing 3-1 in the first leg, they must overturn the deficit away to reach the league phase for the first time in their history.
Chery’s standout year came in 2024/25 with Royal Antwerp, scoring 18 and providing seven assists. Last season he helped NEC secure a historic Champions League berth. Since arriving at the club he has 11 goals and eight assists in 42 matches.
