Tino Livramento is seemingly the top target for Manchester City to fill the right-back position. Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that City have identified the versatile Newcastle United full-back as the player they want to become their next long-term right-back.
But convincing Newcastle to sell one of their prized assets will be no easy task. They’ll likely demand a sizable transfer fee to contemplate selling one of their most important players. Now a new report his revealed what that transfer fee could be. Now it remains to be seen if it is a price that Manchester City would be willing to pay to sign Tino Livramento.
Pete O’Rourke has reported for Football Insider that Newcastle United are reluctant to sell Tino Livramento this summer. Furthermore, O’Rourke reports that Newcastle have placed an £80 million price tag on Livramento in a bid to fend off Manchester City’s interest in the versatile full-back. It is also reported by O’Rourke that Newcastle aren’t under any financial pressure to sell any of their key players. Lastly, O’Rourke reports that signing Tino Livramento will be difficult for Manchester City given that Newcastle have no intention of selling Livramento this summer.
As a player, Tino Livramento is seemingly the ideal fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad. He is young, Premier League proven and is already one of the best full-backs in the Premier League. Livramento is a versatile player who is adept at playing at left and right-back. The England international is also a technically gifted player who has his best years ahead of him. He ticks every box that is generally required of a player to sign for Manchester City. But the stumbling block is Newcastle’s determination to keep Livramento and the reported asking price.
Is paying upwards of £80 million a move Manchester City will make to try and sign Livramento? That answer isn’t immediately clear. There is certainly merit to the idea of City paying such a fee for Livramento. He is a player who could be Manchester City’s first choice right-back for a decade. Given his age, talent, potential and importance to Eddie Howe’s side that is a reasonable transfer fee to pay for one of England’s best defensive prospects. Whether or not the City hierarchy are prepared to go that big to sign one of their primary transfer targets is unknown.
But there is another factor in the equation. Newcastle United may not accept £80 million to sell Livramento. All indications are that they won’t. Perhaps that could change if Manchester City did submit an offer of that size for Livramento. But it remains to be seen if City will go that big to land the player that is their top target to fill the right-back void this summer.
