Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has defended Robert Sancehz as he hit back at suggestions the Blues need to sign a new goalkeeper.

Sanchez joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2023 after losing his place in the team, but his arrival at Chelsea wasn’t met with much excitement.

The Spaniard has made a number of high profile errors during his time at the club, and has faced a lot of heavy criticism.

Former Blue John Obi Mikel has been heavily critical of Sanchez, and there was genuine surprise Chelsea didn’t sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.

The Blues passed on the chance to sign Mike Maignan as they weren’t prepared to get close enough to AC Milan’s valuation.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was also available, but Chelsea opted against entering the race with the Italian instead joining Manchester City.

However, Sanchez has started the season well and red card against Manchester United aside he’s clearly improved.

Many supporters still want a new keeper, but that looks increasingly unlikely to happen, and Boehly has now come out and defended Sanchez.

“Sanchez is doing pretty damn well right now,” he said at an event in Australia this week.

On current form it’s hard to argue against Boehly, but for Sanchez to really win supporters over he would need to show this form over a whole season.

Filip Jorgensen seeking January exit

Whilst Sanchez is making improvements the same can’t be said for Filip Jorgensen who has found things tough this season.

The 23-year-old has made just four appearances in all competitions, with just one of those coming in the Premier League.

It’s been reported Jorgensen wants to leave in January in order to play more first team football and boost his World Cup chances, but it will be interesting to see If Chelsea sanction a departure.
