Former Wycombe Wanderers owner Couhig first attempted to buy Reading last year, but his takeover bid collapsed at the last minute in September, and he subsequently became embroiled in a legal battle with Dai Yongge.

However, it was announced earlier this month that Couhig and Trosclair's company, Redwood Holdings Limited, had agreed a deal in principle to buy the club, as well as the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground, with only the "final legal technicalities" still to be completed.

That sparked a nervous wait for Royals supporters, but the news they had been hoping for was finally confirmed on Wednesday afternoon as it was revealed that Couhig and Trosclair have now finalised their takeover of the club, and the deal has been given EFL clearance.

The completion of the takeover officially brings Yongge's disastrous tenure at Reading to an end, during which the club suffered relegation to League One and were hit with multiple points deductions and transfer embargos amid a host of off-field issues.

Despite the turmoil they faced, the Royals somehow managed to maintain a play-off push this season, and after missing out on the top six on the final day of the campaign, they will be optimistic that they can mount another promotion challenge next term under new ownership.

Further communication from the new Royals owners is expected over the coming days, but Trosclair took to social media after the takeover was confirmed, praising Couhig for his determination over the past year to get the deal done.

"Amy and I are thankful to be in a partnership with Rob and Missy Couhig! It’s Rob’s tenacity that has gotten through this last year. We are all very excited to be a part of the Reading family and we will be attending many games," Trosclair wrote on X.

Couhig is yet to break his silence since being officially confirmed as the new Royals owner, but manager Noel Hunt has previously expressed his excitement about working with the American businessman, and supporters will now be looking forward to hearing about his plans for the club.

After a nightmare few years under Yongge, Reading supporters will be delighted and relieved in equal measure by the news that Couhig and Trosclair have completed their takeover of the club, and they will be hoping that brighter days will be ahead.

Couhig and Trosclair have promised to bring "honesty, transparency, and financial sustainability" to the Select Car Leasing Stadium - things that were completely absent during Yongge's reign - and the pair should both be praised for their commitment to getting what seemed like an incredibly complex deal over the line.

With new owners now in place, the Royals will have a strong chance of keeping hold of their key players this summer, including the likes of Joel Pereira, Lewis Wing and Harvey Knibbs, while they will also be able to operate properly in the transfer market once again ahead of what could be an exciting campaign next season.
