According to Sunderland Echo, interim CEO Tom Burwell says supporters will notice further Stadium of Light upgrades while a possible expansion is assessed, with no immediate decision expected. The club are weighing options to capitalise on recent momentum and rising demand.

Burwell is leading a multi-year capital programme, with more work planned this summer. He said last year’s changes lifted the mood and expects fresh tweaks, some smaller and cheaper, to be clearly visible.

He also wants to maximise the new Keel Crossing, which better connects the stadium to the city. Sunderland trail many Premier League rivals in non-matchday income, so the club aims to explore ways to create 365-day revenue.

On matchdays, options around premium assets and extra seats will be explored with the council, though these are medium term. There is a 15,000 waiting list for general admission and a 45-box list against 54 boxes. He warned that downturns can arrive, so choices must be weighed against leaner periods.

At a recent meeting with the Sunderland supporter collective, Burwell said a Stadium of Light expansion could cost about £250 million. For now the club are balancing potential benefits with significant construction costs.
