Manchester United backup goalkeeper Tom Heaton is expected to sign a new contract with the club.
Heaton came through the United academy and left the club to join Cardiff City in 2010. The shot-stopper then returned as backup 11 years later after spells with Burnley and Aston Villa.
The 40-year-old has only made three appearances since then with his last game under Erik ten Hag when he kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest.
However, Heaton is regarded as locker room leader and an important part of training and is set to pen a new one-year extension according to journalist Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News.
With United returning to European football, Heaton will also be one of the players who can be a part of the homegrown quota for next season’s Champions League squad.
