Tom Lees on Rotherham trial, could reunite with Alex Bruce next season | OneFootball

Tom Lees is training with Rotherham and could reunite with former Leeds United team-mate Alex Bruce, who was appointed head coach last month.

"He's one that we're looking at," Bruce told the Rotherham Advertiser. "Obviously, he's an experienced player. We've got to monitor him. We need to make sure it's right for Tom and make sure he's right for us. We're going to see how that pans out over the next few days."

Lees, 35, spent 2025/26 in League One with Peterborough United and departed after his contract expired. He has almost 700 senior appearances since making his debut on loan from Leeds at Accrington Stanley in 2009.

Rotherham will play in League Two next season and had Harry Gray on loan for the second half of last term.

Bruce spent two years at Elland Road, and he and Lees featured together during the 2011/12 Championship campaign, making seven appearances as a pairing under Neil Warnock.

Bruce had joined Huddersfield Town on loan in November 2011, but Leeds triggered a 24-hour recall a month later after Lees suffered a knock.

Lees made 135 appearances for Leeds before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 2014, where he played 274 games, then spent four years at Huddersfield Town. Bruce retired in 2022, coached Macclesfield Town then worked at Salford City, and Rotherham is his first full managerial role in the EFL.
