Toma Basic ‘to leave’ in June as Lazio reverse renewal plan | OneFootball

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi, Lazio have pulled out of contract talks with Toma Basic, who is now expected to leave in June.

The Croatian has been at the club since 2021 and has arguably produced his best campaign in Rome. Initially out of the squad, Maurizio Sarri turned to him in September amid an injury crisis.

The 29-year-old seized his chance and became a regular starter. He then suffered an injury against Juventus in early February and has not featured since.

Sarri at one stage viewed Basic as a key figure, which led the hierarchy to open renewal talks. In December, they were understood to be close to a deal running to 2030 worth at least €2 million net per year, before discussions halted.

The report said the club have reconsidered in light of his fitness issues and age. The Aquile aim to lower the squad’s average age.

Basic, like fellow out-of-contract players Pedro and Elseid Hysaj, will be replaced by younger profiles.
