Tomás Aranda could miss the start of Boca’s pre-season as he remains with Argentina during the opening phase of the World Cup, leaving him unavailable for the first sessions.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the midfielder was named in Lionel Scaloni’s preliminary 55-man list, then omitted from the final 26, yet he made his debut in the pre-tournament friendlies.
He will continue training in support of the Albiceleste delegation until Wednesday 17 June, a day after Argentina face Algeria and a day before Boca begin pre-season at Ezeiza on Thursday 18 June.
This international duty means he would miss Boca’s initial get-together, a minor setback for the club’s mid-year planning.
Coaches and fitness staff are weighing his accumulated workload, given he has not had the break his team-mates enjoyed, and will manage his training carefully to avoid muscular issues.
Vasco Arruabarrena is assessing the best timing for Aranda’s reintegration, balancing the need to have key players quickly with giving the midfielder a deserved rest. A final call on his return to full group work will be taken in the coming days.
The new coaching staff face a tight lead-in, with the first competitive match set for Thursday 16 July against Sarmiento in the Copa Argentina, leaving less than a month to prepare.
