According to Sainstmarching.com, Tonda Eckert looks likely to be dismissed by Southampton after the Spygate scandal, in which he pressed colleagues to conduct spying, and the team were expelled from the play-offs.
Before that, a 19-game unbeaten run had propelled Saints into the Championship play-offs as favourites. Attention is now turning to where he might land next.
Rudy Galetti reports that several Serie A clubs have added Eckert to future shortlists, noting his Italian language skills and the coaching licence courses he completed in the country.
The report also suggests overseas cultures may be less troubled by covert intelligence work, which could ease a move to Italy if he is frozen out in England.
A Bundesliga route is not ruled out either, with previous interest from Stuttgart claimed by Bild before Spygate. The 33-year-old has worked around RB Leipzig and coached in Bayern Munich’s youth set-up.
A parting of ways may suit all sides, allowing Southampton to reset and the Berlin-born coach to rebuild his reputation away from St Mary’s.
