Ivan Toney is prepared to take a ‘huge pay cut’ to facilitate a Premier League return in January, with the forward desperate to make England’s World Cup squad.
Toney has not been called up by England since June with the Al-Ahli forward overlooked for recent camps. England have just one more camp, in March, before Thomas Tuchel names his squad for next summer’s World Cup in North America.
Toney is determined to make the plane and wants to return to the Premier League in January to improve his visibility to the England manager.
Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham have all been linked with the 29-year-old, who has scored 41 goals in 59 games since moving to the Saudi Pro League from Brentford in 2024.
Toney’s reported wages of £400,000-a-week in Saudi Arabia have been deemed a stumbling block to interest from England.
However, TEAMtalk are reporting that the player is prepared to take a huge cut in order to keep his World Cup dream alive.
Toney was part of the England squad that reached the 2024 European Championship final and believes he can still make the squad for next summer. Tuchel named just one centre-forward in his squad for November, in England captain Harry Kane.
The out-of-form Ollie Watkins and injured Dominic Solanke were not part of the group. Tuchel has stated that he believes Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden and Barcelona winger Marcus Rashford could fulfil the role in any absence for Kane.
England will head to North America as one of the favourites for success, after a perfect qualification campaign that yielded eight wins from eight games and no goals conceded.
