According to Diario AS, Real Madrid are in talks over Toni Kroos returning to the Bernabeu in a non-playing role.
The former Germany international has remained in Madrid since retiring and has stayed closely connected to the club. He would be involved in the sporting department in some capacity.
His exact duties are yet to be defined. He has worked in youth coaching since retirement, so that could be one avenue, and he might also contribute to recruitment after assisting on transfers over the past 12 months.
Kroos retains a strong relationship with club president Florentino Perez, who has driven the push for his return. Real Madrid also intend to sign a new midfielder this summer as they prepare to replace him on the pitch.
Supporters are likely to welcome his comeback, though many would rather he were still playing after his influence has been missed in recent seasons. It remains to be seen whether an agreement is finalised, but for now a return looks very likely.
