Former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo returns to the Stadium of Light this weekend with Manchester United. The winger is set to play on Wearside for the first time since his standout 2022/23 loan, and he will be involved on Saturday.
"Tony Mowbray was like a dad and manager for me, we had such a good relationship", Amad said, speaking to Sky Sports. "I really enjoyed my time in Sunderland honestly, I have nothing bad to say about the club."
He was shown a surprise message from Mowbray. "Hiya mate, just wanted to wish you well for this weekend going back to the Stadium of Light," he said. "I've been watching every game, watching you do amazingly well at United."
"I'm emotional, he gave me a lot of confidence," Amad said. "The days after I arrived in the club he gave me the keys to shine. He gave me everything and I'm so grateful to him."
Benjamin Šeško is an early doubt after going off at half time in United's 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday. Michael Carrick said: "He's been carrying a shin problem for some time, he got pushed and caught the bit that's been causing him some problems." Amad replaced him at the break and could start if Šeško is not fit, with Joshua Zirkzee another option.
