Here’s a look at the latest goals ever recorded in the competition, where seconds made all the difference.

10) Bruno Fernandes (99:45) – Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United, September 26, 2020

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes scored arguably the most controversial goal in Premier League history.

Referee Chris Kavanagh had already blown the final whistle before VAR spotted a handball from Neal Maupay, resulting in a last-gasp penalty for Man Utd.

Fernandes put away a 100th-minute spot kick to inspire the Red Devils to a highly dubious 3-2 victory at the Amex Stadium during the season marred by the COVID-19 pandemic.

9) Virgil van Dijk (99:53) – Everton vs Liverpool, April 19, 2026

The maiden instalment of the iconic Merseyside derby at Everton’s brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium could not have ended in a more dramatic way.

When it looked like Everton and Liverpool would share the spoils in a 1-1 draw after Beto cancelled out Mohamed Salah’s equaliser, Virgil van Dijk headed home Dominik Szoboszlai’s corner-kick delivery to silence the home fans.

Van Dijk’s last-minute header marked the Reds’ sixth 90th-minute winner against the Toffees – the most one side has netted against a single opponent in the competition’s history.

It’s hard to tell whether the Dutchman’s goal saved Arne Slot’s job. However, there’s a feeling that the former Feyenoord manager will stay at Anfield for at least one more season, with the Reds set to secure Champions League qualification.

8) Dejan Kulusevski (99:53) – Tottenham Hotspur vs Sheffield United, September 16, 2023

Tottenham Hotspur pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent memory in 2023, overturning a 1-0 deficit against Sheffield United in incredible fashion.

Despite facing a narrow deficit in the eighth minute of the second-half stoppage time, Spurs scored a late equaliser through Richarlison before Dejan Kulusevski completed the turnaround.

Only two minutes and 20 seconds separated the two goals as Tottenham secured one of the most fascinating victories in the modern era of English football.

7) Juan Mata (100:03) – Chelsea vs Norwich City, August 27, 2011

Current Melbourne City star Juan Mata opened his Chelsea account in 2011 with only the second Premier League goal scored beyond the 100-minute mark in a 3-1 home triumph over Norwich City.

Didier Drogba’s head injury warranted a lengthy added time, with the Blues leading by two goals to one, courtesy of Frank Lampard’s penalty 10 minutes from time.

However, it didn’t stop Mata from slotting home a perfectly-placed shot into the bottom corner after being gifted the ball by a terrible defensive mistake to put the game to bed.

6) Leon Bailey (100:09) – Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace, September 16, 2023

Leon Bailey scored in the 101st minute of Aston Villa’s come-from-behind 3-1 home win over Crystal Palace in the early stages of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

His late strike was not a game-winner, as Douglas Luiz converted a 98th-minute penalty to complete Villa’s turnaround, with Jhon Duran pulling them level in the 87th minute.

Bailey’s goal helped Villa put the result beyond doubt and secure a ninth consecutive home league triumph, which was the club’s record run at the time.

5) Gabriel Jesus (100:15) – Arsenal vs Manchester United, September 3, 2023

Arsenal fought back from a first-half deficit to beat arch-rivals Man Utd 3-1, only a fortnight before Villa’s win over Palace, with Gabriel Jesus netting another late goal.

There was nothing to separate the sides heading into second-half stoppage time before Arsenal’s Declan Rice scored his first goal for the club in the 96th minute.

Heavily linked with a summer exit, Jesus, who admitted he ‘dreams’ of returning to his boyhood club Palmeiras, finished Arsenal’s lightning-fast breakaway, beating Andre Onana to put clear daylight between the sides.

4) Cole Palmer (100:39) – Chelsea vs Manchester United, April 4, 2024

Despite often profiting from the stoppage time under Sir Alex Ferguson, Man Utd were on the receiving end of another bad beat in a seven-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge at the tail-end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Erik ten Hag’s side overhauled a two-goal deficit to take a 3-2 lead ahead of the injury time, only to suffer another late heartbreak, as Cole Palmer turned the game on its head in just over 120 seconds.

Palmer netted his second penalty of the match to restore parity in the 100th minute.

It was supposed to salvage a point for Chelsea, yet the talismanic playmaker completed his hat-trick with the latest winning goal in Premier League history at the time.

3) Harvey Barnes (101:48) – Newcastle United vs Leeds United, January

Newcastle United achieved the unthinkable in their home clash against bitter rivals Leeds United earlier this year, fighting back from a 3-2 deficit beyond the 90th minute to clinch a 4-3 victory.

Bruno Guimaraes’ 91st-minute penalty sparked the comeback before Harvey Barnes sent St James’ Park into raptures with a fortuitous half-volley, handing the Magpies a win in the 102nd minute.

Clocked at 101 minutes and 48 seconds, Barnes’ strike is the latest winning goal in the Premier League era.

2) Dirk Kuyt (101:48) – Arsenal vs Liverpool, April 17, 2011

One of the most breathtaking Premier League meetings between Arsenal and Liverpool took place at the Emirates Stadium in April 2011.

Legendary Dutch striker Robin van Persie broke the deadlock in the 98th minute to put the Gunners 1-0 up. Everyone thought it would be enough to seal all three points, but Dirk Kuyt had other plans.

Jamie Carragher’s nasty second-half injury forced the game deep into stoppage time, allowing Kuyt to score the second-latest goal in Premier League history and draw the Reds level.

1) Oli McBurnie (102:07) – Sheffield United vs West Ham United, January 21, 2024

Sheffield United and West Ham United produced a thriller at Bramall Lane in January 2024, with an injury to goalkeeper Alphonse Areola causing a lengthy delay.

Oli McBurnie stepped up and scored the latest goal in Premier League history, firing home the equaliser after 102 minutes and seven seconds.

Chris Wilder’s relegation-threatened side fought back from two deficits to earn a point in a heated contest, but it was insufficient to keep them in the top flight.
