As the January transfer window approaches in Serie A, here is a look at the most expensive sales that clubs in the division have made over the years.
Fiorentina’s sale of Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus for €70m plus up to €10m in bonuses is still the most expensive January transfer in Serie A history in terms of both incoming and departing players.
Vlahovic’s sale was more than double the second-most expensive Serie A January sale, Dejan Kulusevski, who also joined Juventus, albeit from Atalanta in the winter of 2020.
Genoa sold Krzysztof Piatek to Milan for a fee of around €35m in January of 2019. Piatek features twice on the list, while Genoa are one of the surprise kings of the winter transfer market, as they have three former players who feature in the top 10 most expensive Serie A sales in January.
One of them, Radu Dragusin, happened last winter, when he joined Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on a permanent deal for around €25m.
Eljif Elmas, who joined RB Leipzig from Napoli, is the only other player from 2024 who features in the top 10 most expensive Serie A sales in January.
