Some players take as much joy from creating goals for others as they do from scoring themselves, but who’s been making the most assists this season?
No doubt you’ll have seen the exploits of players like Bruno Fernandes and Michael Olise in their respective leagues’ assist charts. But who are the top 10 players from Europe’s top five leagues with the most assists in 2025-26?
We’re only counting assists in league games rather than all competitions, which in theory puts Bundesliga and Ligue 1 players at a slight disadvantage since their seasons are shorter.
But there are actually four Bundesliga players in the top 10 as things stand, along with three from the Premier League, two from La Liga and one from Serie A.
For any players with the same number of assists, those with fewer minutes played (i.e. a better assists-to-minutes ratio) rank more highly.
Eintracht Frankfurt attacking midfielder Chaibi only made three Bundesliga assists last season, all of which came within the last six games.
Chaibi equalled that tally within five games of the new season, despite Frankfurt losing their focal point over the summer when Hugo Ekitike joined Liverpool.
This has been Lopez’s best season for goals scored in all competitions (13), thanks largely to his six in the Champions League, as well as assists.
Sometimes playing on the left wing instead of his usual midfield position, the Barcelona star has assisted nine La Liga goals, to go with eight in other competitions.
West Ham are at serious risk of relegation from the Premier League, despite their captain being one of only three players in the division with double figures of assists.
All but one of those 10 have come in the second half of the season, including against Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City.
Barcelona sensation Yamal has hit double figures of goals and assists in La Liga this season, all at the mind-blowing age of 18.
Records have been falling and there could be plenty more to come.
Cherki has lit up the Premier League in his debut season with Manchester City. The former Lyon playmaker just can’t be contained – not even by Pep Guardiola.
Like Yamal, he also has double figures of goals to his name. Signing of the season?
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side for players leaving Liverpool, but it has been for Diaz at Bayern Munich.
His debut season in the Bundesliga has been sublime, with nearly 50 goal contributions across all competitions.
He provided a hat trick of assists in Bayern’s 8-1 win over Wolfsburg in January, and scored once himself for good measure.
Unlike everyone else on this list, Ryerson hasn’t got any goals to go with his collection of assists this season.
That’s fair enough for a right-back. His 13 Bundesliga assists with Borussia Dortmund are nine more than he managed last term and comfortably the best return of his career.
There was some disputing the concept of Dimarco supposedly setting the record for most assists by a defender in a Serie A season, given that he plays so advanced as a wing-back that he’s probably more of a midfielder.
There’s no disputing the fact that the Inter star has set the record for most assists by a player of any position in a Serie A season since tracking began.
Over the winter, Dimarco went five games in a row with at least one assist – including three in one game against Sassuolo.
There was some short-lived hysteria over the weekend when it was suggested that Fernandes might have equalled the record for most assists in a Premier League season – until it became clear why that wasn’t the case just yet.
But the record is very much in sight for the Manchester United captain. He needs just one more to match Thierry Henry (2002-03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019-20) on 20.
In all competitions, Olise is closing in on the record for the most assists in a season since 2000, needing just a few more to better Lionel Messi’s 32 from 2011-12.
The former Crystal Palace winger has been in outstanding form for Bayern Munich, even managing a triple assist against RB Leipzig in January within a run of six games in a row setting up goals.
With two more assists, Olise would match Thomas Muller’s 2019-20 record for the most assists in a Bundesliga season.
