These are some of the most unpleasant trips for away fans in Great Britain...

There is nothing more that many football fans up and down Britain - from the top of Scotland all the way to the bottom of England - love more than watching their team on an away day.

From the long journeys via car, minibus, coach or train, to the new pubs, towns and cities to visit, there are so many reasons to love trips away following your club.

It doesn't always work out though - some away days don't end up being so fun, sometimes because of the result on the pitch, and other times simply because of the experience of facilities.

But which stadiums are the worst for visiting supporters in Britain? FLW has taken a look at the 12 worst...

12 ? ? Victoria Park - Ross County

Located deep in the Scottish Highlands in the town of Dingwall, travelling to Ross County to face them in an away clash can be a long old slog for a team, as well as its supporters.

Back-to-back relegations sees County now plying their trade in the Scottish League One, meaning the giants of the country do not need to make the long trip to Victoria Park, which is well over three hours away from Glasgow and nearly four hours from Edinburgh.

It hasn't been a bad place for a club to get a result in recent years if you're on the road, based on County's on-pitch form, but the travel for most clubs north of the border and the facilities on offer mean that it's not very well-regarded as an away day.

11 ? ? Sixfields - Northampton Town

As far as EFL stadiums go, Northampton Town's Sixfields home is quite a small and compact one, but for away fans, it's not really anything to shout home about.

Away fans are housed in a small stand behind one of the goals, with a typical allocation of around 900, and given the corners are not filled in, you can feel a long way away from the home fans at times, as well as visiting supporters that sometimes get some of the East Stand too.

The less said about the location too, the better. Located on the edge of a retail park with no shortage of food outlets, it's a good half an hour walk from the train station in the city centre, and it can also be a pain to get away from for visitors travelling by car - all in all, not a great experience.

Many away supporters who don't live near London get quite excited about a trip to the capital for away fixtures, and in terms of location being in west London, QPR would ordinarily be a good away day.

That's until you get inside Loftus Road though. Whilst the steep, boxed in stands are a positive when it comes to generating an atmosphere, it's not exactly comfortable for visiting supporters - especially when it comes to the very narrow and cramped concourses.

Some of the views from the top tier of the away stand can also be restricted due to the pillars in place, and it can all be combined to create a very unsatisfactory experience - unless your team wins there, of course.

9 ? ? Edgeley Park - Stockport County

For a club that have aspirations of returning to the Championship, Stockport County's away facilities probably need a little bit of work.

The uncovered terrace behind one of the goals at Edgeley Park has recently been removed in favour of a new temporary structure, which this time is covered, but still very limited, and has some restricted views due to the poles keeping the stand in place.

If the Hatters are ever going to construct a permanent stand in its place, which there is plans to do in the future, then it's likely going to have decent facilities, but for now, it has to go down as a tough place to go for a visiting supporter, and not a very appealing one.

8 ? ? Field Mill - Mansfield Town

With one stand towering over the rest, Mansfield Town's Field Mill has somewhat of an uneven feeling to it - especially as the structure directly opposite was not in use for nearly 20 years until it became operational under a limited capacity.

For visitors to the Stags, you won't find a lot of legroom in the stand you'll occupy behind the goal, and facilities remain slightly limited - it can also be hard to generate a good atmosphere, given the fact that the stand to the left only holds around 700 fans.

It's by no means the absolute worst in the EFL, but Mansfield could do a lot more to make their stadium hospitable to visiting fans.

7 ? ? London Stadium - West Ham

West Ham's London Stadium may be shiny and modern, but it's not the most ideal for visiting fans for a good number of reasons.

When you compare it to their former home of Upton Park, it just isn't favourable for so many reasons - mainly the distance you feel away from the pitch as you're set back a heck of a long way, as well as being split across two tiers.

For certain fixtures, the Hammers do not serve alcohol in the away stand either, and having to walk through a shopping centre via Stratford Stadium to get to the away end can certainly feel like a chore too.

It's a stadium that probably isn't liked much by home AND away fans alike, but the modernness of it compared to others saves it from sinking further down the list.

6 ? ? Racecourse Ground - Wrexham

Given their success in recent years, matches played at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground can generate a good atmosphere - mainly because the home side have won quite a lot.

It is not enjoyable however for away teams that take a beating in North Wales - and supporters probably don't enjoy the away facilities either.

Situated in one half of the Wrexham Lager Stand, there's a real lack of facilities on offer as well as capacity, which has come about due to a reduced capacity because of the construction of the new Kop Stand behind one of the goals.

Once that is fully operational, then away facilities may be improved and allocations may increase, but for now, a trip to Phil Parkinson's side can't be seen as a good one.

5 ? ? Kassam Stadium - Oxford United

A Championship club for the last two years before their relegation back to League One, there's an argument to be had that no second tier side should have a three-sided stadium in this day and age.

Oxford United though were bucking that trend, and since its opening in 2001, the Kassam Stadium never got the finishing touches of a fourth stand added to it due to financial difficulties.

Because of that, away fans are placed on the wing of the North Stand, and whilst the views are not too bad from there, it feels like a long way away from the action when it's down the other end of the pitch.

Being able to see a car park behind one of the goals isn't exactly appealing either, and the location of the Kassam is also an issue - situated a good four-and-a-half miles outside of the city centre, it can be a pain to get to, and there'll be hope that when their planned new stadium is built, Oxford can provide away supporters with some better facilities.

4 ? ? The Hive Stadium - Barnet

Barnet moved out of Underhill in 2013 in favour of a switch to The Hive complex, and five years into their move, Bees chairman Anthony Kleanthous purchased the freehold, meaning that they finally had a stadium under their ownership.

A big issue though is that The Hive is actually in Edgware and not Barnet itself, which is a good six miles away from where the club have called home for the last 13 years.

The away stand, for views in itself, is actually decent and offers up to 1,900 seats, but the stadium itself can often feel soulless and lacking atmosphere with a bit of a detached feeling, and away fans cannot do it just themselves.

It can also take up to an hour to get to The Hive from central London, which isn't ideal whatsoever, and the lack of facilities in and around the ground for visiting supporters is somewhat lacking too.

3 ? ? Priestfield Stadium - Gillingham

Three sides of Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium are pretty standard stuff, but the structure that the away fans are situated it in is some sight - and not exactly in a good way.

The current Brian Moore Stand has been up since the start of the 2003-04 season after the Town End was demolished, and the large 3,400 structure is a temporary one, and there doesn't appear to be an appetite for it to be shifted anytime soon.
