Spurs have sold him for around £7.8 million, bringing an underwhelming three-year spell in north London to an end.
Tottenham signed Veliz from Rosario Central in the summer of 2023 for a reported £13 million.
The then-19-year-old emerged as one of Argentina’s brightest young forwards, scoring 19 goals for his boyhood club.
Spurs saw the transfer as a long-term investment, with the club hoping to develop another promising South American talent into a first-team regular.
However, the move never took off. Veliz struggled to break into the Tottenham senior squad.
He made just eight appearances and scored his only goal in a 4-2 Premier League defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Loan spells at Sevilla and Espanyol also failed to convince, with the striker unable to establish himself in La Liga before returning to Rosario Central earlier this year.
The agreement is also believed to include a 20 per cent sell-on clause, allowing Spurs to benefit should the 22-year-old revive his career in South America.
Tottenham will inevitably take a financial hit on the initial transfer fee, but the move allows both club and player to move on.
It became increasingly clear that Veliz was not ready to make the jump to Premier League level.
With Veliz and Randal Kolo Muani gone, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke struggling, Spurs need another proven striker.
Richarlison should be on the market. Injuries have consistently disrupted his time in north London, while his goal return has never moved the needle.
His wages and any transfer fee generated could significantly boost Spurs’ budget.
Tottenham need a reliable No. 9 capable of delivering 20 or more goals a season, and he needs to make way for that signing.
