Tottenham defender Luana Buhler has been ruled out of the Switzerland squad for Women’s Euro 2025 with an injury.
The 29-year old was determined to play in her home Euros despite struggling with knee issues.
Things looked promising for Buhler who had been recovering well in the build-up to Euro 2025.
Buhler was named in Switzerland’s 23-player squad for Euro 2025, which also included the likes of Alisha Lehmann, Aston Villa’s Noelle Maritz and new Man City signing Iman Beney.
However, she has not reached full fitness and just two days before Euro 2025 she has pulled out of the Switzerland squad.
Switzerland defender Luana Buhler was gutted to miss out on Euro 2025 with Switzerland.
She was determined to fight through the injury and play a part this summer. However, it has been judged that she is not ready to play in the tournament.
Buhler said: “I was really looking forward to being part of this journey.
“You can feel how special this tournament is. I did everything I could to be fit and help the team, but unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough time.”
Switzerland boss Pia Sundhage said: “We knew it was going to be a race against time with Luana Bühler.
“It’s incredibly unfortunate that her Euros journey has to end so early. On behalf of the entire team, we wish her strength and all the best for a full recovery.”
Her withdrawal comes two days before Switzerland kick off their Euro 2025 campaign against Norway.
Switzerland will have some optimism despite Buhler’s injury given they were drawn in Group A, which includes Norway, Iceland and Finland.
The last two winners of the Women’s European Championship have been won by the nations that hosted that year’s championship.
However, Switzerland’s hopes of winning the tournament are low, having never previously made it out of the group stage.
Switzerland were given a kind Group A draw which increases their chances of advancing into the knockout phase.
According to the UK’s best betting sites, Switzerland are second favourites to win their group at 11/8 odds, behind Norway on 10/11.
Switzerland are tied with Italy and Norway at odds of 25/1 to pull off a surprise and win the whole tournament.
Norway are 5/6 favourites to beat Switzerland on Tuesday. A draw is priced at 15/8, while a Switzerland win is 9/4.
