Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of finalising a permanent transfer for Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich, according to Bild.
Tel spent the second half of last season on loan from Bayern at Tottenham, who are now keen to sign him on a long-term deal.
Bayern are open to selling the 20-year-old forward to create space for other targets this summer.
Discussions are now advancing towards a fee of around €35 million, in addition to the initial €10m loan fee, which is still below the original €50m–€60m option to buy.
While Tel scored just three goals in his 20 appearances for Spurs, he is excited by the prospect of making his switch to the English capital permanent, given he has no future at Bayern.
Moving to London presents an exciting opportunity for Tel to rediscover the form that persuaded Bayern to pay €20m to sign him from Stade Rennais three years ago.
Tel is currently on international duty at the Under-21 European Championships, where he featured in France’s opening goalless draw against Portugal.
He will play under a third different manager in the last 12 months following Tottenham’s recent appointment of Thomas Frank.
Tel is not expected to be Spurs’ only attacking acquisition of the summer, with the club plotting to hijack Manchester United’s proposed move for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
If a deal for Mbeumo falls through, Tottenham have Antoine Semenyo and Tyler Dibling lined up as alternatives.
