Tottenham have confirmed the appointment of Carlos Raphael Moersen as director of football operations.
Known as ‘Rafi’, Moersen takes up a newly created role at Spurs after spending more than a decade with the City Football Group (CFG).
He will officially join the club in the next few months after he has served gardening leave.
Moersen’s appointment is part of a continued effort to remodel the football structure at Spurs, with Dan Lewindon set to be announced as performance director next month.
During his time with CFG, of which Manchester City is their flagship club, Moersen rose up the ranks, eventually taking up the role of director of football transactions.
Moersen was responsible for negotiating player contracts, while he has also stepped up to support the director of football with negotiations.
Moersen, who is not a direct replacement for outgoing sporting director Fabio Paratici, will join Spurs’ executive leadership team and will report to sporting director Johan Lange.
Paratici, who only returned to Spurs in an official capacity in October, will leave for Fiorentina upon the conclusion of the January transfer window, with Moersen taking up his role shortly after.
On Moersen’s appointment, Lange, said: “We are delighted to welcome Rafi to the Club in the newly created role of Director of Football Operations.
“He was the outstanding candidate from a highly competitive process and brings a wealth of experience in this critical area of our football operation.
“His appointment is an important step as we continue to strengthen our football structure and support long-term success.”
