In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in West Ham United playmaker Lucas Paqueta this summer. It has been claimed that Spurs are eager to get a deal done for the Brazilian talent, but are facing competition from Aston Villa in pursuit of him.

Paqueta’s Unimpressive Season At West Ham

Paqueta struggled to find consistency with his performances for the Hammers in the previous campaign but put in a few impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The Brazilian talent participated in 36 matches for West Ham last season, scoring five goals in the process on all fronts.

The 27-year-old failed to impress in the final third as he averaged 1.47 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept only 7.7% of his attempts on target. Paqueta even distributed the ball well in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 77.3% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).

Paqueta’s current contract at the London Stadium will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Spurs would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him.

Will Paqueta Be A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Thomas Frank?

Paqueta can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can chip in by scoring a few important goals for his team.

The Brazilian sensation is primarily an attacking midfielder, but can also fill in as a box-to-box midfielder or function as a left-winger if asked to do so by his manager. He has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Tottenham.

We can expect Paqueta to add more quality and depth to Thomas Frank’s attack. He could even unlock the best out of his former West Ham teammate Mohammed Kudus at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

At 27, Paqueta has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for Spurs to pursue in this summer transfer window.
