Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig before the transfer market closes, according to BILD.
Simons is expected to leave Leipzig this summer and has been linked with several clubs just six months after completing a permanent move from Paris Saint-Germain.
Chelsea are the favourites to land the Dutchman, having reached a verbal agreement with him on personal terms..
However, the Blues’ plans have hit a snag because they want to include a player swap featuring Christopher Nkunku, but Leipzig have rejected that offer for financial reasons.
This has left the door open for Tottenham to swoop. They are keen on signing Simons after the recent disappointment of missing out on Eberechi Eze.
Spurs were sent to sign Eze from Crystal Palace before Arsenal completed a late move for him.
They are back in the market for attacking reinforcements and have set their sights on Manchester City’s Savinho.
Despite Tottenham’s willingness to pay more than €70 million, City are unwilling to part ways with Savinho so late in the transfer window.
Spurs will need to act fast in their pursuit of Simons, although it is still unclear if he will fancy a move to north London at this stage.
Simons started Leipzig’s 6-0 defeat against Bayern Munich in their Bundesliga opener and is expected to feature once again when they welcome Heidenheim to the Red Bull Arena on Saturday.
