In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are in the mix to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher. It has been mentioned that Spurs would have to rival Newcastle United in the race to land the English talent this summer.
Gallagher enjoyed a decent campaign at the Madrid club and managed to put in a series of solid performances at the heart of Diego Simeone’s midfield. The England international registered four goals and six assists in 50 matches for Atletico Madrid last season across various competitions.
The 25-year-old was a real workhorse for the Madrid club at the centre of the park as he made 45 tackles, 23 blocks and 20 interceptions in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 85% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano will expire in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Spurs to snap him up on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Gallagher is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and is a good passer of the ball.
The English sensation can chip in by scoring and creating a handful of important goals for his team. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if told to do so.
We can expect Gallagher to add more quality and depth to Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 25, Gallagher has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent option for Spurs to pursue in this summer transfer window. All in all, Tottenham would be wise to launch a move for the English midfield ace ahead of the new season.
