Thomas Frank says Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie have both been training on the grass ahead of Tottenham’s Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle.
Both defenders have missed the last three games because of injuries but Frank says both are closing in on being able to return.
“[Romero was] on the pitch today,” Frank said. “Not a timeframe, but on the pitch today. [Udogie was] on the pitch as well.”
Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke continues to work his way back from ankle surgery and Frank says he, like Romero and Udogie, is progressing.
“Steps forward… three steps forward.”
Kevin Danso has stepped up in place of the injured Romero, helping Spurs to a 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday and Frank was full of praise for the defender.
“I think he definitely deserves praise,” Frank said.
“He’s stepped into the defence and needed to help the team. Every coach would love him. He’s a fantastic character and personality.
“Yesterday he was very good. I think he was good and calm on the ball. I think he had some strong battles with Beto and Barry up front. From crosses, but especially in the second half where they bombarded us a bit, it was like he had a magnet head. Everything went to him and he cleared it well, so he did well.”
