A pivotal tie in the relegation clash awaits
Tottenham’s survival bid suffered a considerable setback as they lost 2-0 at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. The clouds seemed to be parting for Spurs after they drew with Liverpool and beat Atletico Madrid in their last two outings, but they failed to rise to the occasion in this, a true relegation six-pointer.
Spurs came into the match level on points with Forest but now find themselves trailing by two, and only avoided dropping into the relegation zone as West Ham rolled over in simultaneous defeat by Aston Villa. Tudor’s side were on top for much of the first-half but failed to unsettle Matz Sels, and their profligate finishing was punished as Igor Jesus headed home on the stroke of half-time.
Two changes came at half-time and Tottenham seemed slightly improved, before Morgan Gibbs-White, who so nearly moved to north London last summer, tapped home to double Forest’s advantage. Taiwo Awoniyi then tapped home at the back post to put the visitors three goals in front, and secure all three points.
