Tottenham want one more signing after Ndiaye deal agreed – which position should Spurs target? | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to make one more addition to the squad after signing Iliman Ndiaye, who is close to officially joining the North London club.

Spurs needed a left-winger and are about to pay £60 million for the 26-year-old to bolster their ranks, but they may not be done with their spending.

Tottenham have already spent over £300 million to sign Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Marco Senesi, and Andy Robertson.

Spurs also added Savio and Omar Marmoush to the ranks as they look to bounce back from successive 17th-place Premier League finishes.

However, their bid to return to the upper echelon of the Premier League table has not gone well, as they have lost their first two games.

Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi believes the challenge is mental, but adding more good players to the ranks won’t hurt.

It remains unclear where this potential signing plays.

Tottenham will send Richarlison to Everton when they get Ndiaye, leaving Dominic Solanke as the only out-and-out striker in the squad.

Marmoush can lead the line, but De Zerbi might want a more capable centre-forward to deputise for the injury-prone Englishman, who has failed to live up to expectations.

A more pressing area, however, could be defensive midfield.

If Spurs are serious about improving their defensive solidity, this is a profile they lack in the squad.

Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur and Tonali are all excellent midfielders, but none is a natural holding midfielder.

Neither of them consistently sits in front of the defence and protects the centre.

That leaves Tottenham vulnerable through the middle, particularly when their full-backs push forward.

De Zerbi needs someone capable of screening the back four, winning second balls and breaking up attacks.

Adding that profile could give Spurs the balance they currently lack and make the team far less porous centrally.
