Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeping situation has been under close scrutiny since Guglielmo Vicario fractured his ankle last month.

With the Italian’s injury ruling him out for several weeks, Spurs have been looking for ways to bolster their squad.

However, despite the club’s interest in bringing in a new goalkeeper, it seems they are now reconsidering their options for the immediate future.

As quoted by The Spurs Web, instead of making a move this January, Tottenham have decided to wait until next summer to address the position, with current backup Fraser Forster set to hold the fort in the meantime.

Tottenham’s current goalkeeping situation has been anything but straightforward. After Vicario’s injury, the club began exploring potential replacements, with Burnley’s James Trafford emerging as the top candidate according to The Athletic.

Trafford, who has impressed in the Premier League since establishing himself as Burnley’s number one, is reportedly valued at around £20 million.

The Englishman has quickly become one of the most sought-after young talents in the league, and Tottenham have reportedly been monitoring his progress closely.

However, despite their interest in Trafford, Tottenham have now opted to delay any potential move until the summer transfer window.

The primary reason for this decision is that Vicario is expected to return within the next couple of months, which would make an immediate signing unnecessary.

Spurs are confident that once Vicario is back in action, the goalkeeping position will be secure for the remainder of the season.

Fraser Forster keeps the goal until Vicario's return

In the meantime, Fraser Forster will continue as Tottenham’s starting goalkeeper. Despite a couple of high-profile mistakes earlier in the season, including two errors against Manchester United, Forster has largely been reliable when called upon.

His experience and solid performances have given manager Ange Postecoglou the confidence to keep him in the starting role until Vicario is fit again.

Forster’s two costly mistakes against Manchester United were quickly brought into focus, with some critics questioning his ability to handle the pressure.

However, it’s worth noting that apart from those errors, the 36-year-old has shown composure and professionalism.

Tottenham’s decision to delay the pursuit of a goalkeeper for now reflects their belief that Forster can manage until Vicario’s recovery.

With James Trafford potentially joining the club in the summer, Tottenham’s goalkeeping situation may soon see a fresh face.
