Toulouse ‘to seek’ fee above Emersonn sale as Sunderland chase Dayann Methalie | OneFootball

Sunderland have intensified their move for Toulouse left back Dayann Mathalie, though a deal remains some way from completion.

L’Equipe reports Toulouse rejected Sunderland’s opening offer, understood to be around £17 million, and talks are continuing.

RMC reported on Monday evening that Sunderland had reached an agreement with the 20-year-old on a five-year contract, yet there is still no agreement between the clubs.

Toulouse have already sold striker Emersonn to Ipswich Town in this window, for a fee believed to be about £24 million plus £3.5 million in add-ons. They are believed to be seeking an improvement on that figure for Mathalie, who emerged last season with 31 competitive appearances.

Left back is a priority for Sunderland after Dennis Cirkin’s exit earlier this summer, leaving Reinildo as the only senior option in Régis Le Bris’s squad. The Black Cats are also looking to sign another right winger following Bertrand Traoré’s departure, with a left-sided centre back and extra depth in the final third also under consideration. The club’s stance throughout has been to prioritise quality over quantity.
