Uli Hoeneß‘ apple pie anecdote has caused a stir around FC Bayern – now Vincent Kompany himself has also spoken out and put the situation into perspective
The Bayern coach indirectly confirmed the honorary president’s account, but at the same time made it clear how such decision-making processes work at the record champions
At the press conference ahead of the Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart, the 40-year-old emphasized that transfer discussions are a completely normal part of daily work at FC Bayern. „Together we are a very active group – Christoph Freund, Max Eberl, Jan-Christian Dreesen,“ explained Kompany
It’s always about examining possible reinforcements and discussing them internally – but always in a respectful atmosphere. „It always happens in a good atmosphere with a lot of respect,“ the Belgian clarified

Kompany also addressed the now legendary scene with Hoeneß at Tegernsee – and took the story with humor. „I told Mr Hoeneß at that moment that he would have pushed just as hard at our age,“ the Bayern coach revealed
His conclusion was relaxed: „In the end, we ate apple pie and everything was fine.“
Kompany thus confirms that although there were differences of opinion, these did not lead to any tensions
The question of whether FC Bayern could make another attempt to sign Xavi Simons next summer remains exciting, but Kompany kept a low profile in this regard and referred to those responsible at the club. „Max and Christoph will have to answer what we do in the next transfer round,“ said the coach
His own role is clearly defined: „I’m there at the end. We try, I always try.“
The statements once again show how close the sporting management team at FC Bayern works together. Differing opinions are part of it – but the decisive factor is that a common line is found in the end
In retrospect, forgoing a transfer worth millions such as Xavi Simons has proven to be part of a larger plan: more trust in the club’s own young talent and a balanced squad structure
Kompany seems to be fully on board with this approach – even if it sometimes means apple pie instead of the players he wants.
