Alexander-Arnold's start to life in the Spanish capital has been nothing short of disappointing. He's barely getting game time. Initially he was replaced by Dani Carvajal in the starting line-up.

When Carvajal picked up an injury and Alexander-Arnold returned from his knock, it seemed like he'd slot back into the team.

But that's not what happened. Instead Federico Valverde has been used in the right-back role, with Xabi Alonso preferring the Uruguayan over him.

It has meant Trent Alexander-Arnold is not even in the England squad and when Real visited Anfield he spent most of the game warming the bench before being booed while coming on for the last 10 minutes.

To put it mildly this has been an embarrassment for Alexander-Arnold. He can still turn it around of course. He's a generational player, who is good enough to become one of the best in the world.

But right now he's frustrated. According to a report by El Nacional he feels betrayed and misled by Alonso, who promised him he would have a starting role.

The report claims that Alonso doesn't seem to trust Alexander-Arnold's abilities and the situation has caused him 'considerable unease.'

As a result he's also worried about his situation at the club with so much uncertainty surrounding his role in the team.

All of this merely confirms that life away from Liverpool, as many have found out after moving to bigger clubs isn't always sunshine and rainbows.

Whether Alexander-Arnold will live to regret this move remains to be seen. Like we said, he's still got all the quality in the world to turn his situation around.
