Tricolor thrash Cruzeiro at MorumBIS with Ferreira hat-trick

On a night inspired by forward Ferreira, São Paulo thrashed Cruzeiro 4-1 on Saturday night at MorumBIS in the 10th round of the Brazilian Championship. Ferreira (three times) and Calleri scored the Tricolor’s goals.

With the result, the team coached by Roger Machado reaches ten points and sits among the top spots in the competition.

Tricolor returns to the field this Tuesday, the 7th, to face Boston River at 9:30 p.m. at the Centenario Stadium in Uruguay, in its Copa Sudamericana opener. In the Brasileirão, the next match is on Saturday, the 11th, against Vitória at Barradão in Salvador.

The first half started very balanced, with the visitors enjoying more possession, but São Paulo looked more dangerous going forward. In the 8th minute, Artur crossed and Calleri flicked a header that was saved by the goalkeeper. A minute later, Artur was brought down inside the box. In the 11th minute, Calleri converted the penalty and opened the scoring at MorumBIS.

While the fans were still celebrating, in the 15th minute Artur burst forward and played a lovely pass to Ferreira, who finished calmly past the goalkeeper to extend the Tricolor side’s lead. In the 22nd minute, the team from Minas Gerais had a good chance with a shot from outside the box, but Rafael made the save.

In the second half, the visitors from Minas Gerais pushed forward and pulled one back in the very first minute. In the 7th minute, Rafael made a great save after an Arroyo deflection. And in the 16th minute, Artur delivered an inswinging corner, Kaio Jorge got a touch and sent the ball against the post. On the rebound, Ferreira hit it hard, scored his second goal, and sealed the victory.

To turn the win into a rout, in the 46th minute, after a quick counterattack, Marcos Antônio played Ferreira through, and he cut inside, dribbled past his marker, and fired home to score a beautiful goal and spark the celebration among the São Paulo fans.
