Real Madrid dropped valuable points in the context of the La Liga title race as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Espanyol.
It was a disappointing performance from Los Blancos, who conceded a late goal from Carlos Romero to drop all three points at the RCDE Stadium.
However, the game could have easily ended in a draw if Vinicius Junior’s goal had not been disallowed in the first half.
Around the 22nd minute of the game, the Brazilian international showcased brilliant footwork to dance around the Espanyol defenders before producing a curling effort that found the back of the net.
However, the goal was controversially disallowed as it appeared that Kylian Mbappe had fouled Lozano in the lead up to the goal. This left everyone, including Vinicius quite frustrated.
Vinicius even complained to the referee following VAR’s check on the Mbappe incident and had a little conversation.

Now, Movistar+ has revealed the conversation between the two, where it appeared the referee told Vinicius (h/t Mundo Deportivo), “It’s a foul, it’s a foul. Listen to me. Trust me.”
Referee had the conversation after a chat with the VAR team, who presumably must have informed him about the incident and how it unfolded.
The game ultimately continued, with Real Madrid attackers crafting mulitple goalscoring opportunities but struggling to find the final end product.
The defeat will serve as a major blow for Real Madrid in the context of the title race, especially with Atletico Madrid breathing down their necks.
