Tuchel hails Foden’s England return: ‘A joy to watch’ | OneFootball

Thomas Tuchel says he was delighted with Phil Foden’s return to the England team as the Three Lions beat Serbia 2-0.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring in the first half, before Foden was introduced as a second-half substitute to set up Ebere Eze for a late second.

It was the Man City star’s first England appearance since March and Tuchel lauded the instant impact he made.

“With Phil, you just see he is full of confidence,” the England boss said.

“You see it basically in the first few minutes when you meet him, you feel he is light, confident, you see him smile. He comes on the pitch, his first touch is right, second touch, his movement, it’s just a joy to watch.

“You can see he is competitive and full of confidence and he showed it today.”

Foden came on in the central striker role and Tuchel says it is something he is considering more for the 25-year-old.

“He can play against any opponent in this position,” he said. “I like to have him in the centre of the pitch. I like to have him surrounded with close connections with other players. That’s maybe his main strength at the moment.

“He did well.”
